As you’re aware, moving out of your rental involves many steps before your mind is put at ease. To ensure you receive your security deposit back and feel comfortable that you’ve got everything in order before your move, use this guide.
Before Packing
- Give at least a 30-day notice
- Review your lease agreement
- Gather all the keys
- Forward your mail to the new address with USPS
- Shut off or transfer utilities
- Schedule a final walk-through date
Some landlords and property management companies in Boise provide a move-out checklist. Some even include a cleaning fee when you first move in. Don’t fall victim to not cleaning because you’ve paid for a cleaning fee. You never know the relationship between the cleaning service and management. So it’s in your best interest to clean as if you haven’t paid at all.
Cleaning List
- Touch up the walls
- Wash the windows
- Clean the floors
- Remove dust and debris
- Clean light covers and lampshades
- Clean the fireplace
- Empty all trashcans
- Scrub the baseboards
- Get soap scum off the bathroom tiles and tub/shower and bleach the grout.
- Scrub the refrigerator inside and out. Remove all shelves and clean them separately if necessary.
- Clean all appliances inside & out (microwave, oven, etc.)
- Take photos of the place once everything is cleaned and out
Of course, if you are stressed or exhausted with all the preparations and box-packing, hire a professional cleaning service. Depending on the size of your rental, you can expect to be spending anywhere from $150-250+ for cleaners. Upfront this amount can be intimidating, but the luxury of having someone else do it for you is priceless. They are also professionals who know what kinds of supplies are best for specific areas.
Move-Out Day
- Sweep all the floors
- Take out the trash
- Spot clean refrigerator
- Eat out that day
